The way the four giants viz. Apple, Facebook, Amazon, and Google are going on right now, anything can be possible. So, when somebody fears that these four companies might just have a presence in every sphere of your life, that fear might just come out to be true in some years down the line.
I say so because of the following:
- Apple – Apart from its stronghold in the sectors of communications, entertainment, music and mobile Apple has set its eye now to earn money by ads (iAd) as well as shifted all its users to the cloud where the future of computing lies. Apple has executed a solid online music retail strategy till now, which they might just shift onto the offline sector as well. With Apple, anything’s possible.
- Amazon – Who would have imagined that Amazon is one of the biggest retailers in the USA after seeing the magnificent cost-efficient Amazon Kindle and Amazon’s new tablet. Now, Amazon has shifted focus and calls itself to be a technology company than just a company selling goods online.
- Google – Google is one of the companies which has been in every sector you could imagine from a long time but will definitely like to expand as well as strengthen the various domains where it has just started out. With Google Wallet, it aims at controlling your spending habits as well, as it has so well controlled your internet habits all these years.
- Facebook – This is one place where users love to throng. A social network has the power to be all – a retailer, a network, a deals site, and can easily integrate other spheres like music (in the form of Spotify). Facebook has the advantage of its users spending a lot of time, and it has started to use it for maximum effect – compelling the publishing houses to come up with their own Facebook-integrated readers (Washington Post Social Reader)
The infographic below might not be very beautiful, but it sure conveys the fact that the world is poised to see a war between these tech giants possibly to capture each and every sphere. The small businesses should be wary of this threat. At the same time, one must remember that it is not very easy to expand into other domains which are not a company’s area of expertise or where it does not have the first-mover advantage. Let’s see how these giants fare.
